Tuesday night at Connolly's in Manhattan, 70 west coast swing dancers turned out to glide to the sounds of DJ Kelly Faust. Always eclectic in her style of music, she played to the crowd and kept them on the dance floor, song after song after song.
The floor is so good at Connolly's that people came from New Jersey and Long Island. Connolly's offers some really good food and drink specials, too. Early on, several tables were put together and everyone was welcome to join in for dinner - no matter how well or little they know each other.
Though there were more followers than leaders, I noticed that no one sat around for very long. That's the way it should be, but often is not. The event organizer, Michael Diener, believes that dancing should be fun and social, not cliquey and snobby.

There is a lesson at 7 pm on Tuesday nights featuring local teachers. If you check this venue out and do not know west coast swing, just let someone know and they will take you aside and teach you the basics.
