Big Apple Ranch - Two Stepping Saturday Night!

Every Saturday night in Manhattan there is an awesome country dance where everyone is welcome.  The Ranch has always been a gay and lesbian venue - however - there are plenty of straight people and everyone dances with each other.  Two step, west coast swing, line dances and an occassion waltz are enjoyed by all levels of dancers.  This is a completely comfortable and friendly dance environment that I encourage dancers to try.

The evening starts with a beginning two step lesson - followed by a line dance lesson.  Lots of social dancing follows.  It is completely acceptable to walk up to a stranger and ask for a dance - and become friends.  There are theme nights too - rhinestone cowboy, leather and leather (and some more leather), Valentine's Day, etc. Often there are performances by professional dancers. And you can even have a beer!

About 10 pm there is always a show.  If you are lucky, you'll get to see the Prairie Dogs live!  This is the most amazing group of dancers you will ever see!  Creative is an understatement.  The choreography is unique "prarie dog style."  The costumes are innovative and entertaining in their own right.  The smiles and delight of the "Dogs" and the audience is infectious.

And - there is a raffle!  You might just win some peanut brittle! (sic!)

One of the best events of the evening is the after-show Barn Dance.  That's where everyone gets up and forms a big circle.  The music plays and everyone does a few steps and then changes partners.  Great way to meet new people!

The dance at the Ranch is held in the spacious ballroom at Dance Manhattan Dance Studio in the heart of Chelsea.

If you like country style dancing - this is a great place to visit.  You'll dance, you'll laugh and you'll feel right at home regardless of your "politics!"
