At Swingin' Into Spring, I competed in the Newcomer Division of the Jack n' Jill. It was pretty brutal. 20 men and at least 40 women. Its easier for the leaders to make finals than the followers. Out of necessity, the followers are judged more closely. Its tough, but that's life.
Its hard to take not making finals in these events. Then I think about it this way: a long (long) time ago, we went out for stuff in high school and college. Whether it was the tennis team or a role in a play, we were trying to do something special, we were following our dreams.
On Saturday when I went in the prelims in this competition, I was seventeen years old again. I wouldn't have missed this experience. Its a chance to follow a dream, try to hit a high note. Its living in the moment. My partners were great and gave it all they had.
There is something to be said for just that.
