Saturday night in New York City was the scene of a very fun country dance! About 70 people turned up for a country waltz lesson and dance at You Should Be Dancing studios in mid-town Manhattan. There was plenty of space for two-step on one side of the room and a separate area for line dances.
This venue attracts a very mixed age and background group of people. Many turned up in western clothing and brought their country spirit with them. Some came from Long Island and New Jersey, too.
At these events, the DJ calls the dance. It may be a two-step, waltz, polka, El Paso, Cowboy Cha-Cha, Sweetheart Shodish. The line dances were also called. A very nice young lady led and helped those who were rusty or unfamiliar.
There are always more men than women at dances but everyone was very friendly and the guys made every effort to dance with all the ladies. Of course, line dances are fun because you don't need a partner.
