Saturday Night in April!!!
All of the great and beautiful dancers of the world can not compare to the intrinsic style and experience that defines a legend of our time:
JOHN FESTA!
Learning from him is like receiving a blessing by a priest. The frankincense and mirth of his example fills the air – and his students are able to simply dance!

John Festa was GOTHAM SWING CLUB’s first teacher of the series year. These special workshops are held at Basic Ballroom at 335 W. 35th Street (near 8th Avenue).

It’s a very New York City – tres chic – kind of lofty experience. Regular monthly dances will continue to be held at Club 412 at You Should Be Dancing, 412 8th Ave., 4th floor.
Quite a few of the local west coast swing dancers came out last Saturday evening. John Festa’s distinct musical style is always a draw. But John’s playlist is evolving.

Sure – there are still those oldies but goodies (check it out – Kansas City by Brenda Lee). Now, however, the playlist has been reinvented to include the latest (and better) favorites.

A lovely feature of the Gotham Club Dance is Taxi Dancers. Thank You!

There are always more women than men and some people are always more in demand than others. But there was no sitting on the sidelines for long. Brian King and Sam DeFrancesco proudly flashed their YELLOW TAXI DANCER buttons and worked the floor!

Best of all - it turned out that Gotham Board Vice President, BRIAN KING, was having a birthday! The tradition in west coast swing is to line up and dance with the birthday child.
For Brian, the whole place RUSHED over to get their chance to dance with one of the nicest guys anywhere (and a heck of a great dancer – leader AND follower too)!

Saturday night was probably the first really good spring evening in which to enjoy going out in the Big Apple. To local dancers, there is nothing like the monthly Gotham Dance Party.

A bunch of us went for dinner at Cooper’s Tavern at 8th Ave. & 35th Street, which turned out to be a very pleasant experience!

He’s gotta learn the ropes in NYC and its up to US to show him!

It has gone through different locations and the ups and downs of west coast swing popularity.

For a good time SURE Thing, come and join us the first Saturday of every month!
