Anthony DeRosa - Red Bean Bash!

New York City has many places to dance. Now, thanx to Anthony DeRosa and his lovely fiancé, Rebecca McCabe, there's one more! The first major Bash was held in a Very Manhattan-Style Cool space on the edge of Hell’s Kitchen Saturday night. It was quite a turnout. People came from far and wide to dance to Anthony’s amazing sounds!

Rebecca McCabe was a lovely
co-hostess. She greeted people with a warm and cheery smile! Every party should have someone this nice at their front door. Both Rebecca and Anthony looked after their guests' every need.  It was great to see Anthony's folks there too - but then - they've been supporting his dance efforts all along.

The most important quality of this venue is the friendliness. Absolutely everyone danced with everyone else. Women asked men to dance – advanced dancers asked beginners out to the floor – women danced with women and men danced with men. It was all about getting out there and enjoying the music.
Everyone really felt glad to be there.

The Red Bean Studios provides rental dance space by the hour. The 1,700 sq. ft. space is very minimalist, with colored track lighting, wall mirrors, a sprung wood floor (yessssssssss!) and lots of big windows.  It is a very comfortable room and emphasizes the magnitude of the delightful atmosphere of the event taking place.

This party was called a “California Mix” but it quickly evolved into a “NYC” style mix of hustle, west coast swing, cha cha and a drop of salsa, east coast swing and two-step. Anthony's choice of music was always inspiring and he adapted to the desires of the dancers.

This is just what Manhattan needed!

There is no end of tango - hustle - west coast swing - salsa - lindy hop venues.

What New York City doesn’t have is the MIX of dances. Ballroom and country styles are varied but seem to be a bit out of vogue at the moment.

But, I don't get this “Cali-Mix” deal. Hey Anthony – don’t ya know we’re in New York City? It should be called a New York Mix! Nobody ever accused the hustle, salsa or cha cha of originating in California. They started in NYC or came here through Florida and were reinvented here. Take the hint!

A surprise treat during the evening was a visit by Tybault Ulrich. Recently relocated to Houston, Texas, Tybault was in town and popped in to dance with all his old students.

Seriously missed, many of the dancers were soooo Happy to see him again!!!

This event will be held on the second Saturday of each month at Red Bean Studios. A pre-party lesson will be included in the admission price of $15 ($12 if you register on-line).

By the way, the old Hell's Kitchen area is remarkably different these days and offers some interesting restaurants and bars.

If this Wildly successful first party is any indication - it will be the NOT TO BE MISSED event each month!

BUT - November will be a little different Because:

Anthony and Rebecca are getting MARRIED!

And they’ll be hiding away in a cozy Vermont cabin on their honeymoon!

So - instead - they are throwing an “After Wedding Party” on November 20 at 9:00 at pm (no lesson). We are all to be treated to the DJ sounds of Wes Carrajat, Jeanette Holmes and Anthony DeRosa for $$FREE!$$  Yaaaaaayyyyyy!!!!!

Light Snacks and All Beverages are Included – but nobody will complain if you bring something.  The holidays are coming - Halloween candy - fruitcakes - those giant tin bins of popcorn - will be appreciated!

And any time - feel free to bring your own water and anything else you wish to these shindigs!

Anthony says there will be theme parties coming up.

Sounds like fun to me!

How about a "Faux Billionaires!" party?

Or "Yankee's - Don't Blow It!" party?

How about a "Wear Something Outrageous!" party?

Or a "Red Bow Tie!" party?  How about "Best Idea for a Party!" party?
