Stepping Out - Hustle Jam!

The Hustle Performance Class of 2010 gave a spectacular, electrically charged show Wednesday night at the Hustle Jam Party in Manhattan.  Under the direction of teacher extroadinaire, Lori Ann Greenhouse, 14 couples impressively demonstrated that hustle has blossomed into an infectious and inspiring miracle of contemporary dance.

Lori Ann's students exhibited a truly advanced level of dance skill.  Quite a few of the members of this team came to Lori Ann without dance training and became finished dancers.  Everyone danced with a joy that spilled out into the audience and WOWED them - again and again!  The routine was challenging - but because the choreographer is such a Master at this art, the pieces flowed easily.

The audience was also treated to a performance by Lori Ann and her partner Kelvin Roche.   Anyone who has been in the ballroom world for a while knows Kelvin.  He is a fabulous Latin dancer and stupendous teacher.  It is clear that Lori Ann and Kelvin were meant to dance together.  Matched in skill and style - these two exploded with chemistry.  Their dance was like a flame thrower aimed at the audience!  There were gasps and oos! and ahhhs!  Lori Ann and Kelvin could headline in Vegas.

Before and after the show there was lots of dancing to the classic sound of Nelson "Paradise" Roman.  Hustle Jam has been a NYC favorite venue for a lot of years - long enough to have attracted the old school, new school and art school style dancers to the floor.  And, before the dance every week, Lori Ann gives an amazing class with so many students that it that takes up two full rooms.  It is one of the most popular classes at Stepping Out.

Lori Ann is a heck of a teacher - giving interesting material - rotating partners and playing the music frequently.  Nevermind if everyone is not getting it perfectly.  Lori Ann understands that people need time to work things out.  This is a chance to learn, dance and SOCIALIZE.  Her class is really a very successful party kick-off.

If you haven't checked out hustle in a while, this dance is gaining in popularity - more than ever - and is really something to look at again.  I don't think it has reached its peak.  Its growing and changing - incorporating some of the best of other dances.

No place is more fun for dancing hustle than Stepping Out - which holds a Prestige Award for being one of the two best dance schools in America.

Check it out!
