Spring was sprung at the Platinum Party last weekend at Club 412 in Manhattan. It was one of those nights - the music was velvet, the mood was cool, there was an even number of leaders and followers at this amazing west coast swing - hustle bash. It was a fitting end to a hellacious winter. Eric and Anna started the evening with a 30 minute "crash course" in west coast swing. This is a wonderful review for rusty dancers and a great chance for newer dancers to get some practice.
West coast swing is not an easy dance. The leader and follower are doing different steps and styling. It is something that takes effort to make it look and feel smart. But it is so fun since a variety of genres and speeds of music work well such as contemporary, blues, latin.
Wes Carrajat is a fantastic DJ and he was really on his game Friday night. You know the music is good when everyone stays until the end of the night. It was virtually impossible to sit out a dance. Whether he played a hustle or a west coast, it was just the right song. Since the number of leaders and followers were even, everyone always had a dance partner.If you haven't been to Platinum in a while - or are visiting from out of town - this event is well worthwhile. It is held on the 3rd Friday of the month. There is bar and lots of space to dance. What more could you ask for on a Friday night?
Admission is $15 and it includes the lesson.
