Finally - Michael Diener and Jennifer Czarkowski have given New Yorkers what they
craaaaaaaave. A really good west coast swing Friday night party! This dynamic duo turned a cold, boring, dismal January night into an exciting and memorable celebration!
95 west coast swingers from the tri-state area signed up on-line ($ discount) for this event which was held at Blarney Stone on 31st and 8th Avenue. Talented teachers, Anthony DeRosa and Rebecca McCabe, came from Long Island to give an awesome lesson. Kelly Faust, DJ extraordinaire,
kept those dancers in the zone all night long.

There certainly was a difference in the vibe that sets Strictly Friday at Blarney apart from Strictly Connolly's. Tuesday nights are all about the after work crowd bustling in after a long New York City kind of day to enjoy a mid-week dance break. Friday, the mood was more laid back. People commented that they could really relax and enjoy the music.

Everyone I spoke with expressed their feelings that Strictly dances are the best of all west coast swing NYC venues. Dance Manhattan, Platinum Party, Swing & Salsa are fun but its not quite the same thing. West coast swing has been around a long time and venues have come and gone. What sustains this dance, this lifestyle, this movement is heart - and Strictly has plenty.

Strictly dances are held in a bar & restaurant setting which promotes a feeling of warmth and camaraderie. People are able to get to know each other over a meal or a drink. Dancers from a variety of backgrounds and ages may come together because they have one thing in common - but are able to find much more to share this way.
The thing about this very creative dance is that to do it well, one needs to take lessons. It becomes a labor of love. Everyone wants to come to the events and fully enjoy the experience. They want their best effort to be appreciated - they want to self-actualize. And that's just what dancers find they are able to do at Strictly dances.

Michael and Jen have developed a unique and successful business model. The dance community would be better off - in all genres - by duplicating this concept. I don't think they would mind. Is anyone paying attention?
